Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting on the
certification of Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) for organic farming and to
compare the production cost and income between the agricultural system, chemical
and PGS organic farming system. The study group of farmers participating in the trial
system PGS in 2015, from 6 group, 6 province . The total 275. The certified PGS
Organic standard were 153 people study. The farmers were mostly female 157 and
male 118 people, mostly aged 51-60 years with a degree in elementary education.
Most farmers have never volunteered soil doctor. And farmers largely agricultural
areas are 1-5 rai (0.16-0.80 hectre) in the history of organic farming showed that the
majority of samples did not participate in the training course on organic agriculture of
Land Development Department that has been certified organic by third party
certification body 141 people, mostly farmers, organic production for a longer period
than five years.
It was also found that when the sorting effect of the independent variables to
pass the certification PGS Organic standards, the integrated plant as the factors
influencing the qualified PGS most (B = 0.451) followed by growing rice (B = 0.358)
support from the government and the private (B = 0.284) planting fruit trees (B =
0.247) period in organic farming (B = 0.227) Have passed the certification of organic
standards by third party certification body (B = 0.190) growing herbs (B = 0.175)
planting vegetable (B = 0.122) training course “PGS Peer Reviews Process”
(B = 0. 074) and training course “Basic Organic PGS” (B = 0.011), respectively.
The Information on production costs and revenue from the production of
agricultural chemicals and PGS organic farming. The study indicated that PGS prior to
the farmer's cost of production averaged 2,584.92 baht per rai per year. After login
PGS farmers with average production cost 1,735.88 baht per rai per year. Or dropped
32.85 percent, and when the test result showed that the average cost of production
in organic farming systems as part of a lower average cost of production of
agricultural chemicals. There were statistically significant and showed that prior to
PGS (agricultural chemicals), farmers have an average income of 93,675.82 baht per
year after the experiment in organic PGS farmers earn an average of 138,211.60 baht
per year, or an increase of 47.54 percent, when test results showed that the average
income per year of PGS organic farming higher than the average annual income of
the agricultural chemical statistical significance.
