As His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great fully comprehended
the intertwined relationship between human beings and nature, he considered natural
resource degradation an issue of high priority. His Majesty King Bhumbol Adulyadej
The Great’s strong determination to solve this problem gave rise to thousands of
royal projects throughout Thailand which focused on preserving and developing
natural resources simultaneously.
Regarding the issue of salt-affected soil, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
The Great pioneered new methods to improve both inland and coastal saline soils.
To cope with inland saline soil, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great
assigned the Chaipattana Foundation to facilitate demonstration projects, such
as the Experimental Study Project for Saline Soil Solutions in Tambon Ta Chan,
Amphoe Kong, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, to provide farmers with guidelines
on how to conduct appropriate agriculture and manage land use in saline soil
areas. Besides, following the construction of Bhuban Palace for His Majesty King
Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother
to connect with people, the Puparn Royal Development Study Center in
Sakhon Nakhon Province was established as the source of knowledge which
contributed to the formation of approaches to cure saline soil in the area as well.
As for areas along the coastline, royal projects like the Kung Krabaen Bay
Royal Development Study Center and the Royal-initiated Pak Phanang River
Basin Development Project were established to deal with coastal saline soil.
After operating those demonstration projects in various areas of Thailand,
the salt-affected soil in each area started to improve, and the restoration of soil
quality was carried out successfully. Farmers in many affected areas could gain
better income thanks to the wisdom of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
The Great.
